Slope failures have causes: undersized toe protection, concentrated flow at a crest, hydrophobic burn-scar soils, or a fill placed at an angle its material won't hold. We start from the failure mode rather than the product catalog.

Vegetated stabilization instead of rip rap

Rip rap is heavy, expensive to haul, and permanent. On many slopes a topsoil-filled geocell section with native seed does the same job, costs less to move, and improves as roots lock the cells together. It also looks like Arizona rather than a quarry.

Where flow velocity, shading or maintenance access rules out vegetation, we use aggregate or concrete infill in the same panels — the choice is engineering, not ideology.

High-desert and burn-scar work

The Flagstaff, Prescott and Payson corridor has more slope, more rainfall and more post-fire ground than metro Phoenix. Burn scars shed water off hydrophobic soil, so surface protection and flow control have to go in before the first monsoon, not after the first failure.

Down in the valley, caliche layers and low-organic soils change how anchors hold and how quickly seed establishes. We adjust anchor patterns, amendments and product choice by elevation and soil, not by template.

Frequently asked questions

Geocell or rip rap for an Arizona slope?
Geocell is usually lighter, cheaper to transport and can be vegetated for permanent root-locked stabilization, while rip rap remains appropriate for high-velocity flow and scour zones. We size the system to the flow conditions and coordinate with the engineer of record.
How steep a slope can be stabilized with geocells?
Geocell systems are routinely used on steep engineered slopes when panels are properly anchored at the crest and restrained at the toe. The limit is set by the design section and anchoring, so the slope angle, soil and flow conditions determine the specification.
Do you handle seeding after stabilization?
Yes. Vegetated systems only work if the vegetation takes, so we coordinate native seeding and hydroseeding with blanket and geocell installation rather than leaving it as somebody else's follow-on scope.
